Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the role of Management Information Systems (MIS) with its dimensions (infrastructure, data quality, management support) in improving environmental performance with its dimensions (medical waste management, environmental compliance, resource management) applied to medical centers in Libya. To achieve the study objectives, the researcher adopted descriptive-analytical and normative approaches. A questionnaire was designed as the primary data collection tool and distributed to a simple random sample of medical, administrative, and nursing staff. A total of (149) valid questionnaires were retrieved and analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The study revealed several key findings: there is a moderate level of agreement regarding the role of MIS with a mean of (2.91), where "management  support" emerged as the most effective dimension, followed by "data quality" and then "infrastructure". The results also showed a moderate evaluation of environmental performance with a mean of (3.03), where "medical waste management" ranked highest, while "resource management" recorded the lowest level of agreement. Hypothesis testing proved that there is a statistically significant impact of MIS dimensions collectively and individually (infrastructure, environmental/health data quality, and management support) on the environmental performance of the investigated medical centers. Based on these findings, the study recommended the necessity of investing in upgrading technological infrastructure and specialized software, establishing a unified electronic system to ensure environmental data accuracy, and implementing strict digitally-supported policies to rationalize energy and water consumption while automating environmental compliance processes.
